It's not only our Louise who has been taking advantage of some cosmetic improvement this month.
I have been promising myself a teeth whitening session for months, and I finally managed to get it done last Thursday. So if you are thinking of going ahead, here is the low down on this treatment.
Firstly, the dental hygienist does the cleaning job on your teeth as they have to be perfect for the laser whitening. She took a long time over this to get them just right. Then the real thing happens!!
There is a lot of preparation work to the treatment. It's not just a case of pointing the laser at your mouth and GO!!
There seem to be various gels that are applied to your teeth and lips before anything happens at all.
When you are fully prepared you must look like something from Wallace and Grommitt as your mouth is clamped open in an unmovable position (not quite as bad as it sounds). Then the laser is switched on and you simply lie there and wait. Twenty minutes later they turn off the laser and apply more gels to your teeth, then twenty minutes later the process is repeated again.
After forty minutes there were sounds of approval from the dental team which was most reassuring. I am not the most patient of people and after forty five minutes all I could think of was what else I was supposed to be doing at work.
By fifty five minutes, you really have had enough and I couldnt wait to get the thing off. I reckon I was in the chair for about and hour and a half altogether given the cleaning and then the gaps in between the actual whitening to apply the gels. Needless to say my teeth are whiter than they have ever been in my whole life. It really does make a huge difference. Forget whitening toothpastes, this is something completely different.
I am glad it lasts for a few years as I would never have the patience to keep going back, but if you want white teeth it is really good value for money.
One last thing, your teeth are sensitive for about twelve hours afterwards. If you have a sensitive tooth or two it does seem to find them out. I took some paracetamol before going to bed and I was fine the following morning.
A great way to treat yourself. Go for it!!
